Letter from Akaya Windwood
Dear Social Change Leaders in Israel,
In 2009 I had the great good fortune to visit Israel on a study tour. One evening over dinner, I remember listening to a panel of women speaking about their work in creating a just and equitable society. When asked what she needed in order to support her work, one woman said: “We need something like Rockwood here – something that will allow us to restore and renew ourselves!” Since she didn’t know that I was in the audience (and I certainly didn’t know what she was going to say) you can only imagine how surprised I was.
That moment crystallized an already emerging commitment on my part. I told her that I would do my best to bring the Art of Leadership to Israel, and then came back home to the US determined to keep that commitment.
Over the years I’ve been an executive leadership coach and an organizational consultant, and leading Rockwood has been the work of my heart. It is a tremendous gift. I am deeply committed to social transformation, and to fostering peace, justice and well-being in the world. Rockwood allows me to contribute to that collective work.
Today, with the support of the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Ford/New Israel Fund and in partnership with Shatil, I am delighted to invite you to join us for the first Art of Leadership for social change leaders in Israel. Please come. And if you do, please let me know how it goes – we’re hoping that this is the start of a strong and vibrant partnership. I look forward to hearing from you.
My very best to you,
President, Rockwood Leadership Institute
